RESUMO

A contact-tracing application is implemented to monitor and manage the spread of disease during pandemics. Since its launch by the government, the adoption of the PeduliLindungi, an Indonesian contact-tracing application, has remained low. PeduliLindungi users are only 34 % of smartphone users and 20% of the population in Indonesia. The effectiveness of contact-tracing apps cannot be measured without mass use and adherence to protective behavior. Approximately 80% of smartphone users, or 56% of the overall population, must use the app. Therefore, the app implementation challenges need to be researched to develop strategies to increase user adoption. This study used a qualitative methodology by conducting interviews with 17 respondents. Respondents were recruited using the purposive sampling method. This study used the NVIVO application to process and analyze data. Based on the results of data analysis using thematic coding, the challenges in contact-tracing apps implementation in Indonesia are divided into five main themes: technology limitations, lack of socialization, organizational problems, individual concerns, and socio-economic inequalities. This study contributes to the theory of challenges in contact tracing app implementation. The technical contributions and recommendations are also provided. © 2022 IEEE.

RESUMO

The specialness of New Year eve traffic is a telecoms industry fable. But how true is it, and what's the impact on user experience? We investigate this on the four UK cellular networks, in London, on New Year eve in 2016/17, 2017/18, 2018/19 and 2019/20 (covid cancelled 2020/21 & 2021/22). Overall, we captured 544,560 readings across 14 categories using 3G/4G/5G devices. This paper summarises our longitudinal readings into 10 observations on the nature of network performance, from a user's perspective, on special days such as New Year eve. Based on these, we confirm that mature 3G/4G networks are unable to deliver a consistent user experience, especially on atypical days. For example, on 4G, a user had a 60% chance to get a latency below 50 ms and 90% chance for 500ms. If repeated in mature 5G networks, it suggests that it is inadequate to support safety-critical 5G use cases. © 2022 IEEE.

RESUMO

The purpose of this study is to explore what determinants affect small and medium enterprises regarding the adoption of broadband mobile applications. Today, broadband mobile applications are changing the business landscape rapidly, which presents a vital issue for enterprises to understand and tackle. Both qualitative and quantitative methods were applied in this study in order to analyze the issues enterprises may face with broadband mobile applications. Qualitatively, a preliminary study was conducted based on a review of literature to explore the factors that impact small and medium enterprises. Quantitatively, Structural Equation Modeling and AMOS were deployed to further examine the potential factors. As broadband mobile applications are mostly installed in the personal mobile device and operated by individuals, this study integrated the perspective of internal users along with the Technology-Organization-Environment framework to develop an ITOE research model to provide a more comprehensive view on the determinants and factors. The practicality and feasibility of the ITOE research model were then verified by the study results through the fifteen determinants identified. Based on the findings, implications and future research directions are proposed.

RESUMO

The World Health Organization (WHO) and other public health agencies have identified vaccine hesitancy as a critical challenge in reducing future cases and deaths from COVID-19. The current study has investigated ways to improve a widely circulated vaccine infographic video by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. After gathering qualitative feedback on properties of the message that could be improved (from online crowdworkers), we conducted a randomized experiment to investigate different combinations of these attributes. Our results suggest participants were more likely to share the video which was: (1) played more slowly;(2) had a female speaker;(3) did not have background music. The study demonstrates potential of user studies for improving existing communication strategies for encouraging vaccinations and alleviating vaccine hesitancy on social media platforms. Our contribution also includes a repository of messages to encourage vaccination, generated by online crowdworkers, which could be utilized by future studies. © 2022 ACM.
